About :)
Mélanie Scheiner (*1991, New York) is a curator, writer, and translator based in Paris, France. She is interested in the invisible systems and structures that govern or shape the lived experience, as well as practices that are attuned to the infraordinary and engaged in the ‘critique everyday life’. In 2019, she and Clémentine Proby co-founded Maison Touchard, a domestic project space/curatorial experiment dedicated to this last effect. Her research tends to coalesce around the subjects of memory, time, architecture, space, and illness.
Mélanie holds an MFA in Curating (2020) from Goldsmiths College, University of London and a BFA in Drama (2013) from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She has worked at galleries and institutions such as Galerie Sultana (Paris), Hauser & Wirth (New York), Swiss Institute, and the Jewish Museum. She was the research assistant to Marysia Lewandowska for the artist’s commission It’s About Time for the Pavilion of Applied Arts at the 57th Biennale di Venezia (2019).
Occasionally, Mélanie dabbles in film. With Sofia Bohdanowicz, she co-directed the short film The Soft Space (2017), which has been presented at festivals internationally including the third Thailand Biennial, Chang Rai (2024) and the Viennale (2018). She most recently starred in Bohdanowicz’s feature film Measures for a Funeral (Canada, 2024), and has also appeared in Lev Lewis’ The Intestine (Canada, 2015) and Nathan Silver’s Soft in the Head (USA, 2012).
